What to Expect...

NECOOP is family commitment. Each member of our co-op is a volunteer, and active involvement by parent and family volunteers is essential. What most people witness going on in our classrooms looks fun, engaging and appealing. Equally as important is what goes on outside the classroom: a family’s partnership with the school community.

A huge part of our culture is the connection between school and families, which encompasses the play-based philosophy, the cooperative spirit, daily operations, and our future growth. We are prepared to give you and your child so much while you are here, but we do expect your enthusiastic involvement in return. This is what has made our school great for over 60 years!

In Classroom

Participate in class on a rotating basis as assigned by your Class Representative — generally once or twice a month. Personal schedules / preferences are taken into account as much as possible.

Cleaning

Help keep our school clean and safe for our kids by participating in two All-School Cleaning events and three scheduled cleanings per year.

Submit Forms

Submit all required health forms, enrollment forms, and background checks. All families must submit the new health form each year before starting classes

Assigned Job

Fulfill the duties of one job for the co-op as assigned to you by the president (based on your preferences and job availability). Some jobs are more time-intensive and hands-on, but there are some jobs available that can be done remotely or are once-a-year type jobs. We will work with you to find something that works with your current situation.

Parent Ed

  • Attend and complete Classroom Participation Training (CPT). New parents to the preschool co-op undergo a professionally led training program to prepare them for classroom participation.
  • Complete at least 4 Parent Education units each year. Free in-person meetings will be offered throughout the year. Other options include approved parenting books, webinars, or online meetings.

Start of Year Meetings

  • Attend Classroom Orientation – receive important information on the operation of the school
  • Attend Class Coffee – meet other parents in your class and get information from the teacher on their expectations and how you can help in the classroom

Events

Sign up to serve on 1-2 event committees each year (provide food or activities for certain school meetings / events).

Fundraising

Help out with our fundraising efforts throughout the year – this is very important for the school to be able to add to its programming and to offer scholarships!

Wonderful play based preschool!

Wonderful play based preschool! The kids grow so much through the program! I particularly like getting to be in the classroom and know the other kids and their families. Kindergarten is wonderful too! Small class size, very experienced teacher, lots of hands on learning, fosters a great love of learning!

Kids Thrive Here

Both my children have thrived at Northeast. All the teachers are wonderful and insightful in different ways. I love the emphasis on social emotional learning, play, and nature. Honestly, I couldn’t ask for a better place for little people to learn how to make friends and ask questions.

Play and Nature based approach

This has been such a wonderful environment for my children’s early education and I feel so supported there as a parent as well. The play and nature based approach has been a great way for my children to learn and explore the world.
