Our Philosophy

Creekside COOP’s philosophy is this: children, parents, and teachers go to school together, each one learning from the other. Each member of our co-op is a volunteer. Active involvement by parent and family volunteers allows us to offer a play-based program at a reasonable cost. Parents have the opportunity to learn alongside their children and become immersed in a welcoming community. Our teachers facilitate daily options for free play that stimulate young minds, with a special emphasis on exploring outdoors.

Outside Play

We believe our students are more effective learners when they have plenty of time to explore outside of the classroom. Nature provides an incredibly stimulating and multi-sensory place to play. Young children need this opportunity to use their whole body, while gaining knowledge and appreciation of our environment. All Creekside classes regularly spend times outdoors. Our kindergarten class participates in Forest Days.

Children Need to Play

Play time is also a learning time. The merits of play as a vehicle for imagination, discovery, invention, problem solving, social interaction, self-regulation, emotional development, creativity, role playing, and language and literacy development are limitless. Believing in a play-based philosophy is simply accepting that children naturally engage in play as a means of learning on their terms and at their own pace. We strive to provide a safe and inviting atmosphere, where children have the freedom to explore their individual limits through developmentally appropriate activities and opportunities for creating, communicating, and discovering through play.

Our Strength is Our Community

Our spirit of cooperation and volunteer involvement provides families with multiple opportunities to actively participate in the betterment of their child’s school. We value the individuality and uniqueness of each child. Northeast Preschool and Kindergarten welcomes students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities at the school. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of our educational and admission policies, scholarship, and other school-administered programs.
